Short, Sweet, and Spooky!

Alice J. Black is the newest author to grace the shelves here at The Parliament House and she is our first international author as well! Her novella series, Soul Seekers, beginning with The Leak of Madness, is expected to be released mid 2018!

The Leak of Madness is a novella about Peyton, a young woman who uses alcohol as a mask to hide behind the madness she sees and hears in the form of spirits. One morning she wakes up inside the funeral parlour that her parents owned before a fire tore down the business and took her parents from her life. She calls her best friend, Olivia, to come and rescue her and initially she is cagey but finally relents as they have to get ready for her brother’s wedding.

Finally ready, Olivia and Peyton drive to The Manor House where the wedding is taking place. Peyton continually tops herself up in order to keep the voices at bay but it soon becomes clear that there’s something dark at work in the old building.

As the night wears on and her new friendship with the barman flourishes, she gets a glimpse of the normal life she could have if only she stops drinking. After a wild night of passion, something she never expected, Peyton wakes in the middle of the night and finds that she has to fight for not only her own life, but Jake’s and it’s a fight against evil.

Alice lives and works in the North East of England with her partner and slightly ferocious cats! Alice has always enjoyed writing from being a child when she used to carry notebooks and write stories no matter where she went. Nothing much has changed and she writes all manner of fiction with a tendency to lean towards the dark side. Most of her work is rooted in darkness, her inspiration coming from a macabre selection of reads as well as the dreams that frequent her sleep.

Her debut novel, The Doors, was released three years ago and her next novel release, the first part in a series of seven, is due to be released in Autumn this year. Several of her short stories have been included in anthologies with various presses and she is always working on more. When she's not writing, she always has a book in her hand and will read from whatever genre suits her that day.
